Derryn Hinch Interview re Eddie Mcguire comments

Eddie McGuire made some very simplistic comments about Culpable

Driving and drink drivers.  His view is one back in the 70s when well

over a thousand people died every year in Victoria alone.

The view then was that every driver had a right to drink and drive and

if they happened to kill or maim anybody then that was bad luck for the

person who was killed. It wasn’t the poor drivers fault, because he

didn’t mean to kill anybody. Thankfully, that thinking has been replaced

with the absolute realisation by most people that to kill on the roads is

a crime and a crime that will not be tolerated.

There are some people out there however who still don’t get it, and

unfortunately Eddie McGuire appears to be one of them.

I hope we can change his thinking towards road trauma.

It is preventable and we need public people like Eddie McGuire to

back us up on this. He has a lot of influence over young people

(footballers) and they do not need to be told that culpable driving and

drink driving is a rite of passage.

It is violent and like all violent acts it should be quickly discouraged and

lawfully dealt with.
