DRINK DRIVING 2009

KNOCK DOWN THE BRICK WALL ONCE AND FOR ALL

The government is complicit in road deaths and they can

no longer deny this.

The alcohol laws that allow drivers to have an alcohol

level that is well documented  as being unsafe to operate

a motor vehicle has to be abolished once and for all if

they are truly serious about preventing road deaths

caused by alcohol in this country, let alone this state.

At .05 a driver is twice as likely to crash into you as

they are at zero.  So how is that allowed?  Why do we

still have four different alcohol levels? (zero,  .05 .07 .15)

Why are they still pandering to drivers who drink?

When are they going to knock down the brick wall that

will allow the next stage of preventing alcohol related

road deaths to go ahead?  As long as drink driving is

encouraged by the government and the penalties dumbed

down to free up court time the brick wall will remain.

The very first step that must be taken is to immediately

issue an Alcohol Interlock device the very first time a

driver shows he/she is prepared to drink and drive. Heed

the warnings these drivers are giving you and protect the

community from them. Stop listening to the old drinkers

who tell you that drink driving is only a problem if you

speed. It is often the alcohol that gives the false

confidence to speed!   Because most politicians are

scared of being publicly ruined if they are caught drink

driving they believe that drink driving has stopped and

deny it is a problem anymore.

This couldn’t be further from the truth, it is rife.

The binge drinking culture is carried onto the roads and

don’t try and ignore this.

What we are seeing in Victoria now is also the result of

the dumbing down of drink driving penalties over the

years.

A mere Traffic Infringement Notice for the first offence

isn’t good enough and sends the wrong message.

Heed the warnings and get these drivers retrained and

Alcohol Interlocked.

Drivers are blatantly showing you they are not prepared

to follow the laws and yet they are given chance after

chance.

The people they kill don’t get any chances.

Alcohol Interlocks issued by police at the point of

breath test failure is what is needed.

The licence is handed in then and there and returned

when the car is interlocked.

A simple and strong message is sent.

Stop going over and over the same old ground and

recognise that the brick wall must come down to achieve

this next stage.

Alcohol Interlocks will stop drink driving and the first

step is to concentrate on the drivers who are prepared to

flaunt the laws the very first time.

Stop waiting until they are repeat drink drivers, and well

over the unsafe limit of .05 before interlocks are installed.

It is supportive of drink drivers, and they are now taking

advantage of it.       Wake up!

The government must have a true zero tolerance

approach before this will happen and so far they refuse

to let go of pandering to drivers who want to drink.

Cars, Boats, as tragically seen this weekend with the

death of a young girl in a speedboat, it doesn’t matter.

Alcohol Interlocks would have prevented them all.

For gods sake take charge and do your job properly

once and for all.
Interlocks have been around for too

many years now.

It isn’t new technology.

Knock down the brick wall and kill off the belief that

drinkers have a right to drive attitude that still exists

behind closed doors.

You are killing us.
